Services provided by a Health Department or Health Ministry

A Health Department (also know in different countries as a Department of Health, Ministry of Health or Health Ministry) is a government agency established to protect public health by responding to domestic health issues and promoting healthy behaviour to prevent disease. Responsibilities vary from country to country but normally include ensuring the provision of health services, the undertaking of public health initiatives, food and drug safety, occupational/environmental health and safety, vaccination programmes, and much more.

Public Health Departments or Ministries of Health are also often responsible for providing information about local health resources, including the licensing of medical practitioners and also deal with complaints about services.
